About University of Milan Scholarships

The University of Milan, also known as La Statale, is located in Lombardy, Italy. It was founded in 1924, making it younger than other Italian universities. However, its performance over the years has demonstrated the University of Milan’s excellence. It currently ranks very high at the national level, but recognises the need to improve internationally.
The University of Milan is a highly inclusive academic institution where people of all genders and people with Specific Learning Disabilities can learn and grow in a safe environment. Over thirty courses in various departments are devoted to teaching students how to protect human rights. It also makes an effort to provide a good learning environment for international students.

Currently, the university offers 23 English Degree Programs, the majority of which are Master’s Degree courses. There are numerous scholarships available in these programmes at the University of Milan. The university assists faculty and staff with Quality Assurance training, the use of distance learning tools, and the implementation of an international approach with English as the medium of instruction.

How do I apply to the University of Milan Scholarships?

International students at the University of Milan are eligible for the same scholarships and benefits as domestic students. They can also apply for scholarships only available to international students at the University of Milan.
To be eligible for a merit-based scholarship, international students must demonstrate excellent academic standing.
You must present your home country diploma as well as a legal copy of your grades. These documents must be prepared in either Italian or English.
Depending on your country of origin, you may be required to obtain a student visa in order to study at an Italian university.
For university education in Italy, international students must meet the language requirement outlined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Some scholarships require this certification, and the level of certification required varies depending on the scholarship provider.

University of Milan Scholarships for International Students

1. Excellence Scholarship

  • Scholarship Link
  • Scholarship Amount: €6,000 and/or free tuition
  • Degrees Offered: Master

All international students admitted to a Master’s programme at the University of Milan before May 30 are eligible for this scholarship. Students, on the other hand, are not required to apply for the Excellence Scholarship. An ad hoc committee at the University of Milan will notify selected students who are eligible for the award.

Fifty-three students may be eligible for free tuition and a €6,000 stipend. One hundred students may only receive free tuition. The committee chooses first-year scholars based on their academic records and CVs from Bachelor’s Degree programmes. Depending on the level of completion of first-year university credit requirements, second-year scholars may be eligible for the scholarship.

2. UNICORE 3.0 – University Corridors for Refugees

This scholarship is offered by the University of Milan in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to Ethiopian refugees in order to encourage them to pursue a university education.

This scholarship programme provides three successful applicants with a €3,000 annual living allowance, free housing, and a canteen card for two free meals at the university.

3. Educational Corridor – Monastery of Mar Musa

This University of Milan scholarship is available to Syrian students who are struggling financially, have family problems, or have done outstanding volunteer work.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must have good grades, sufficient Italian or English language proficiency, and an impressive CV and work experience.
Four successful applicants may receive free housing and a €6,000 annual living allowance.

4. Ministry of Foreign Affairs Scholarship

  • Scholarship Amount: €900 per month
  • Degrees Offered: Master; Doctoral

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides this scholarship to international students and Italian citizens living abroad who wish to pursue a postgraduate degree at the University of Milan.

The University of Milan scholarship covers full tuition, a monthly allowance of €900, and health insurance coverage.

5. Need-based Scholarship

750 students whose family income exceeds the DSU regional scholarship limit may be eligible for a need-based scholarship from the University of Milan. 570 grants are available to current students in their second or higher year. There are 135 for new Bachelor’s Degree students and 45 for new Master’s Degree students.

Both domestic and international students are eligible for this scholarship.
When the university issues the call for applications in July, interested applicants will be able to access detailed requirements and guidelines.

6. Merit Scholarship

Merit Scholarships are available to both domestic and international students. This scholarship is available to 130 current students in their second year and 30 new students enrolled in their first year at the University of Milan.

7. DSU Regional Scholarship

The DSU Regional Scholarship is awarded by the Lombardy government, the Ministry of Education, and the University of Milan to all eligible applicants who meet the income and asset limits specified in the scholarship guidelines.

When the call for applications document is released, updated details on the limits of the Indicator of Equivalent Financial Situation (University ISEE) and Indicator of Equivalent Assets Situation (University ISPE) will be available.
