Quote of the Day

"Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved."

- William Jennings Bryan

Pros and Cons of Online Education

The hectic and stressful lives of Americans provide them very less time for their other activities and this is where they are finding technology coming to them as a major help by reducing their efforts in getting things done. Online education is gaining momentum and is the most preferred choice for people wanting to learn but having relatively less time.

Pursuing an online diploma or degree can be beneficial but the choice should be made after enough research and study of the pros and cons of it. The people considering online learning should list out its advantages and disadvantages before they take any decision. Some of them are listed below.

Advantages of Online Learning

Expediency – Online learning provides the greatest advantage of convenience. It allows the student to complete the tasks at his own pace, eliminating the stress factor from the learning process. Online education comes handy to students working full time to meet their education expenses and single parents who wish to learn while supporting their families. It also eliminates the need of transportation and all the other stresses associated with it.

Economical – Online education comes at a far lower price when compared to in-school education. The courses offered are at a significantly lower price and it also eliminates the commuting expenses. There is additional saving on the living charges since it does not involve relocating.

Disadvantages of Online Learning

No Direct Interaction – Online education removes the probability of direct communication or interaction between students and the professors. This makes it even more difficult for them to obtain guidance and answers from the professors especially if they are not technically inclined willing to guide through e-mails.

Authenticity – Numerous institutions offer online degrees and it becomes difficult to distinguish them from the illegitimate ones. Unless the course is taken from a reputable institution, the security of the course stays wary. The key is to watch out for the courses promised within a very short period of time and carry out enough research before enrolling with an online school.
